About

Welcome boomers – and anyone who knows a boomer – who has found their way to this site! I have long loved to design and make things, and after much thought decided to create this store. Boomer women are incredibly busy, juggling work, family – and often multiple generations – and their own lives. When our paths have crossed the response is almost always, “I used to make things like that for my children, but now I just don’t have the time!”
As children we Boomers grew up with fairy tales about wicked witches and ogres, learned nursery rhymes, and wore handmade sweaters. Times have changed, however these products reflect items we may have enjoyed as children, reworked to be shared with new generations, and also products to appeal to the child within – no matter what the age of the exterior!
My formative years were spent in England, where in the post-war years there still weren’t a great many things available in the shops. Our parents, having grown up during war time rationing had learned the motto, “Make do or mend” as a mantra, which in raising us they applied to every situation. As a result, whenever I wanted something new my mother’s immediate response was to “See if you can work out how to make one yourself.”This wasn’t meant unkindly, it was just the way children were raised. It also developed my creativity and skills at handicrafts.
I was also fortunate to have many of my mother’s teacher friends who could be relied on to teach me skills to reach my goals. My godmother taught me to knit, my paternal grandmother amused me with a tin of buttons to sort and rearrange to my heart’s content. The aunt’s would appear with colouring books and classroom activity samples that they needed to test before using on a class, so I was the lucky recipient of their largesse.
As a result, I grew up reading books saved from the 20’s and 30’s, and loved their illustrations and the latest midcentruy modern layouts and fonts. I was as happy as could be to be given a huge stack of waste paper from my dad’s office and a box of coloured pencils. I would plan my next project out, write stories and practice drawing what I could see from the window. Yes, we had television, but for my overactive imagination it was only a short term diversion before going off to plan or make my next masterpiece.
I love to make things, and you want to give gifts that are as individual as their recipient. This site is where our paths cross. Please browse through my store and see what appeals to you.
